Las Piedras Planned Area Development Drainage Analysis
Approximately 100 town home units and 50 single family residential lots
Yavapai County, Arizona
Description
Project site development was complicated due to its high density and the presence of Jacks Canyon and its Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated flood plain. We designed innovative and creative drainage systems to safely convey peak flow rates throughout the development. A key element of the drainage system design included a primary access bridge design across Jacks Canyon. We studied several alternative types of bridge crossings including corrugated metal arches, concrete 3-sided bridges, concrete box culverts, concrete bridge decks and piers, and reconditioned railroad car bridge decks.
